How will closing the coverage gap help hospitals, clinics, and providers?
Wyoming ranks 49th in the nation for affordability and accessibility of medical care. Closing the coverage gap will significantly improve patients' quality of life.
Medicaid expansion improves provider financial performance.
- Reduces overall healthcare costs.
- Reduces burden on emergency rooms, hospitals, and clinics.
- Studies found that federally qualified and community health centers saw increased revenue following expansion.
- One study found higher salary growth for primary care providers in expansion states than in non-expansion states.
Wyoming would save money by closing the coverage gap and reducing the state’s share of Medicaid expenditures. Providers would be reimbursed according to Medicare fee schedules. This would provide a critical revenue source for hospitals, providers, and clinics so they can meet the needs of their community.
